Sexy Wishlist
I can't tell you how astounded I am at the amount of love and support for SexyBookmarks that's floating around the interwebs! However as with all great things, there's always room for improvement!
Nothing says "I care" quite like listening to the users and making sure that I do everything in my power to make sure that each and every one of you get whatever it is that you may want in regards to the plugin (within reason mind you)! So, here's a list of features which you guys have been asking for:
Add Techmeme to the list of available sites
Add HackerNews to the list of available sites
Add Design Moo to the list of available sites
Add Wykop to the list of available sites
Add Sfora to the list of available sites
Add OkNotizie to the list of available sites
Re-integrate the "Email This" button back into the plugin with self-hosted options
Add integrated Awe.sm functionality and support
Add Migre.me to the list of available URL shortening services
Ability to choose from different plugin skins/themes to better match individual WP themes
This is one of the big ones... Many people love the fact that the plugin offers more than just a few 16x16px icons for people to click on, but they don't like the fact that the plugin doesn't work so well with some themes (especially dark backgrounds). So, we're working on incorporating different "themes" to choose from which will use different sets of icons and possibly even different types of "hover" animation functionality.
Localization of the plugin
This is another big one. Many people have been asking since v1.0 about when the plugin would be offering translations... I had originally planned to offer a text file that could be translated that I would then include in the plugin, but quickly realized that this would be more of a hassle than anything.
I am currently working on implementing the standard I18n method into the plugin. Once it's ready, any of you who offered to translate (or already did translate) the text file I had offered a while ago can feel free to offer up your translations to get the ball rolling.
Add ability to Import/Export your settings for the plugin
I am currently working in conjunction with another developer to make this idea a reality, and intend to release it soon.
08/5/09
This is great news! I’m especially looking forward to the addition of Design Moo. :)
08/5/09
I’m working on it and a couple others right now, should be finished by next release.
08/5/09
Hi Josh, thx for giving us such a great plugin ^^ Really love it~!
08/5/09
I would like to see ability to use a custom background image, and possibly some new ones added that are less.. Corny. Lot of tech sites out there that “Shary is sexy” doesn’t work for…
09/2/09
Let me know what wording you want as an alternative, with an indication of style (handwritten/font etc.) and I’ll make something for you
08/6/09
when will the joomla version be upgraded?
08/6/09
I’m not sure… I would recommend asking Alex (the creator) about his Joomla extension and when he plans to upgrade it…
I will email him myself as well.
08/6/09
love this! best social bookmark adder design ever.
requests:
1) REALLY REALLY REALLY wish you had bit.ly for your shorter (with login). I so don’t want ANother shortner just for this. :( and its got great analytic stats
2) would be awesome if you could set how many icons per row. :)
Otherwise..PERFECTION!! great job and keep up the good work.
08/6/09
Great ideas!
We are already working on adding bit.ly support.
The icons thing… I’m not too sure about, but I will certainly see if it is in fact possible.
Also, just for future reference… Please make use of the appropriate contact forms located in the menu at the top of the page when requesting features or reporting bugs… These forms are set up on an automated system which saves me time and work by automatically filing/logging any and all requests/reports for me.
08/7/09
Thank you for the reply!
1) Great to you see actually listen to suggestions /feedback (even if you can’t implement some… just the fact you consider it goes a long way. Props!).
2) also another plus for bit.ly: its the one twitter uses/defaults to so… ;)
3) thanks for checking the icon rows thing.
4) sorry ! :( I didn’t see contact forms..will do so in the future.
5) ack! this is the last time I do so here: but got some feedback from site visitors. Would be nice to have the buttons “peek out” more by default. To really SEE what it is. I kinda agree looking at it again. At least for the big ones (like twitter).
that said maybe set an option for admin to set the percent of the icon that shows? 10-90%ish that’d give us the choice. (and be cool :P)
ok.. sorry again.. I’ll use the form now.
(ps. gunna fill up my paypal a bit then send some donation over. GREAT JOB! well deserved.^_^)
08/29/09
OH I cant wait. Ive been holding off on using this plugin totally because I need Bit.ly. Hope that comes soon. thanks
08/29/09
Working on bit.ly and awe.sm API integration, but they are certainly a force to be reckoned with, so it may take a bit of time…
Sorry!
08/6/09
ps. website request/suggestion:
you don’t actually have sexybookmarks Screenshots anywhere. ie: a page that just shows and tells what it is!
it actually took me a bit to figure out what sexybookmarks was and what it looked like. heh.
take “fresh eyes” look at the site (index page and about page).
its written as if one already knows what it is. and its hard to gleen without going back to wordpress to check out the screenies. heh.
08/6/09
Ah, yes I see your point… I suppose I wasn’t thinking about the people who had no idea what the site was about.
I will work on adding something to this effect.
08/7/09
I think even just a few screenshots on the about page would do it for a “quick fix”.
08/7/09
PS. btw, I love your website/blog design in general. Clean, simple, yet professional. is it a custom theme? nice job!
09/4/09
I agree. I have spent 10 minutes on your site trying to figure out what it is and still don’t know.
Everyone seems excited about it so I will give it a couple more minutes.
Thx!
09/4/09
@pammktgnut:
Yeah, I just assumed that anyone who happened to come to the site would already know what it’s based on…
This site is dedicated to maintaining and keeping track of updates for my WordPress plugin called “SexyBookmarks”.
I’m working on adding a static front page to the site which will explain everything and include some screenshots.
12/28/09
I read on one of the pages that this tool can be used on non-wordpress sites. Is that true? and if so, where can i find a tutorial / wiki / brief directions to make that happen?
Love the look and feel and your work and most importantly your awesome attitude!
Mike
08/7/09
It’s a premium theme called “My WordPress” from ThemeForest (http://themeforest.net) but it looks like he’s done quite a bit of work and customization to it!
08/14/09
Is it possible to disable this addon on >certain< pages only? I have for example the addon "Theme My Login" and people can now share that page, which is really weird :p
08/15/09
Yes, this functionality will be included in the next release.
08/14/09
Could you please add Hyves to the list?
08/15/09
Added to our “to-do” list.
Also, for future reference… Please use the appropriate contact forms located in the topmost menu for reporting bugs or requesting features.
Thanks!
08/15/09
I’m sorry, will do.
08/17/09
Love the plugin! Wish I found out about it earlier. Anyways, is it possible to add an option on whether to include/exclude the blog’s name when retweeting a post?
In my case, I had to manually edit the plugin’s code to exclude my blog’s name.
Thanks and more power! :)
08/18/09
The only time it should be using the blog’s name is if you’re using it in “manual mode”, this is due to the fact that some people like to use it outside the loop. In which case it wouldn’t be able to pull the post title and so forth, so I have it set to use the blog name and description.
08/20/09
Not exactly sure of your setup, but the problem *should* be fixed in v2.5.2.3 which I just released (like 2 minutes ago)
08/28/09
Very nice plugin, which i certainly will use at my new website, is it possible to at also Sphinn to the list ? Thanks a lot !
08/29/09
Already working on that actually…
Also, for future reference, please use the appropriate contact forms located in the topmost menu on the site for requesting new features. This makes managing feature requests and bug reports much simpler for us.
Thanks!
09/10/09
it would be more popular if there was a blogger version of this. I am using a blogger version on my blog, but it does not have all the buttons.
09/10/09
There already is a blogger version of my plugin…
It has recently been updated as well.
http://www.cssreflex.com/2009/08/sexybookmarks-v2-for-blogger.html
09/15/09
I would like to be able from the admin screen to see how many times each articles has been submitter and to which social sites.
09/16/09
Hmm, this is an interesting idea…
Although it may be fairly difficult, I will see about trying to add this to our “to do list” of feature requests.
Thanks!
09/21/09
I look forward to the integration of an Email This type function. Very nice plugin!
09/21/09
It’s coming soon!
09/22/09
I wait for the integration of “Email Post to friends” function. wait wait wait soon plzz!
Love this plugin!
09/22/09
MayBe it would be too difficult or technically impossibile but it would be really cool if this plugin get integration with wordpress lifestream plugin.
09/23/09
Hmm, I’ve never used that plugin… I guess I’ll check it out and see what you’re talking about.
09/23/09
Hi that’s great plugin and it will be very good if you will add also Azerbaijani social news site, that’s our page on addthis http://www.addthis.com/services/detail/fnews
Sincerly
09/27/09
Hey there,
I like thie looks of this but couldn’t find out how to exclude it from appearing on a certain page anywhere (Terms and Conditions).
Thanks for this beautiful work of art!
Ryan
09/27/09
Sorry, I haven’t added it to the documentation here yet as I’ve been pretty busy today.. However, you can find it in the quick docs at wp.org here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/sexybookmarks/installation/
09/28/09
Maybe this is way too complex, but I want to throw it out there anyways.
A couple of our sites have some static html pages, and it would be awesome to sexybookmarksify them.
By taking the source of one of my wordpress pages running Sexy Bookmarks, I can include the script and css to the wp-content/plugins/sexybookmarks folder and dump the li tags, change the urls, and make it work.
Including the CSS and JS at the head is easy, but it would be cool if there was a more streamlined process for the links. Would it be possible for SB to include an “export settings for static pages” function. In my head this is a checkbox in the WP plugin admin; if it’s checked, when you click “Save Changes” it creates a sb-static.php file that had everything SB needs (the link structure, which social links you want to show, etc) to run on a static site.
On your static pages you would then include wp-content/plugins/sexybookmarks/sb-static.php
The part I don’t understand at all, way over my head, is how you would get the url for these static pages, but maybe it can be done with cURL?
If this is even possible, it seems like it would be a huge addition, as it would enable the inclusion of Sexy Bookmarks, not just on static pages, but on any platform that doesn’t have a SB plugin yet. For people that have forums or other software running side by side with their WP blog, this would be pretty key.
Thanks for a great plugin, will be donating soon.
09/28/09
I’ll look into the shop plugin again…
I like the idea you have there, as SexyBookmarks actually started originally as a small code snippet for static sites and actually had nothing to do with WordPress at all… So it would be kinda like “getting back to it’s roots” in a way.
I’ll mull it over.
09/29/09
Cool. The shop thing is no big deal really, as I have another plugin working there. It would be sweet, but it doesn’t need to be a high priority, you’ve got way to much other cool stuff going on.
The static sites thing would be amazing if it could work.
Thanks again!
09/29/09
Hi Josh,
Love this plugin. I have a styling idea. How about ‘Not so sexy bookmarks’ I know…awesome idea isn’t it :-) The idea would be to have either archery targets with the social media icon in the center, or gun range targets, again, with the social media icon in the center. When you move your cursor over the icon, a gun or a crossbow would show, then when you click, a bullet hole or arrow would appear and know the target down. Readers would be going crazy with the social media stuff as they want to shoot the targets.
The other plus, would be that you actually see the full icon to start with, rather than newbies guessing what is only slightly showing.
You know you love it…lol
09/30/09
Hmm, I’m not thinking that would fly over too well actually. It almost sounds much like the annoying ads that have you try to shoot a gun at a target or something…
No offense, just a little cheesy.
09/30/09
I shall love to see the this lovely plugin with new skins and themes support.
09/30/09
It’s coming soon… Still working out the details.
10/5/09
Hi,
Can you please add Wykop ASAP? I’m really missing it, waiting for a few months now and don’t want to mess up my site by adding it manually.
Thanks! Great work!
10/5/09
Will work on getting it into the next release… Thanks.
10/6/09
Any chance to make it working on non-wordpress sites? We have some sexy shopping carts which need you sexy comes on board : )
10/7/09
Yes, it’s in the works at the moment…
10/8/09
Love the plugin, thanks so much. I’d also like to see it run on a non-wordpress/non-blog site for the current page.
10/8/09
It’s coming… working on making a “script” version that does mostly the same things that the wp plugin will do.
10/14/09
it would be great if i could change “sharing is sexy”
10/14/09
There are several different versions of the “Sharing is sexy” image for you to choose from… If you are unsatisfied with all different options, you are certainly more than welcome to create your own version if you wish.
12/29/09
Why did you remove the Hyves button. the code is still working. Please Just add it again!! Tnx very much.
12/29/09
I haven’t removed the Hyves button…
12/28/09
Well, it’s “kinda” true… It was actually developed as a code snippet for static sites, but evolved into a full blown wordpress plugin. However, in it’s growth to this point, the version for static sites has become pretty outdated and useless overall. I do have plans to create another standalone version that would be up to date with the WordPress version, but that’s a little while away, as there’s a ton of development going on right now on the site itself (not just the plugin). Sorry!
